Client Driven Therapy
Client Driven Therapy is a semi-structured model which operationalizes theories of best practice in psychotherapy. CDT is an integrative approach founded on evidenced based and empirically supported treatment principles. It is anchored in the use of Motivational Interviewing as a default therapeutic interaction style. CDT serves as a road map. It assists practitioners in remaining on the path to “True North.” CDT identifies its “True North” as adherence to best practices and integrating the principles of effective psychotherapy to achieve optimal outcomes through maintaining focus on purpose and authenticity.
It is easy for even the best practitioners to lose sight of why they are doing what they are doing or stray away from evidenced-based interventions or intended treatment targets. By offering a road map, CDT provides a framework for the psychotherapist to follow to help navigate through and attend to what matters in direct practice and direction on how to keep on track. CDT clinicians can articulate a rationale for every interaction during a therapeutic intervention. CDT provides the answer to “why are you doing what you are doing?”
